At the Noble Tennis School, we employ the word “teacher” more often than “coach.” A teacher is someone engaged in the field of education. Education is the process through which potential is “drawn out.” Sport is one of many mediums or paths through which this quest for discovery and mastery is undertaken. A great teacher accelerates the process of mastery. They see, understand, evoke and nurture the potential of the student.

A true teacher is a special person. Essentially, teachers cannot be made; it is more a noble calling than a chosen trade. True, becoming a great teacher requires years of practice and constant learning and refining, and our teachers engage heavily in professional development and certification, but the really essential ingredients, which are a tendency to self-forgetfulness and giving, love of humanity and joy in the progress of another, are "Heart" qualities that cannot be purchased or acquired through any formal process of certification. |
