UPDATE (Dec, 2022) - the October 31 opening was delayed, due to a combination of weather, manpower and construction related factors. Despite these challenges, the work has gone sucessfully forward. The final raising of the tennis dome is scheduled for the week after Christmas, followed by the pickleball & multi-sport dome. After that, interior work on court surfaces and lighting will commence. The club is aiming to open and begin NTS programming near the end of January. The KRC will resurrect year-round tennis in Kingston, after going without for eighteen years, and it will be a hub of tennis development activity, extending to regional, provincial and national levels.
KINGSTON RACQUET CENTRE OPENING SOON!
Kingston, ON September 1, 2022:
As the world focuses on the U.S. Open tennis championships in New York, residents of Kingston are getting excited about the re-birth of indoor tennis in their hometown! After the closure of the only indoor facility back in 2004, local players have waited eighteen years for this event!
The Kingston Racquet Centre, located at 1025 Innovation Drive (just off Highway 15, near Highway 401), is slated to open its doors October 31. The Centre features 6 indoor tennis courts, housed in a state-of-the-art facility, including fitness rooms, food and drink service, 2nd story viewing mezzanine, lounge areas, shower and changeroom facilities, and more.
A separate dome, equally fitted with all the amenities, features 12 Pickleball courts, and will be equipped as a multi-sport facility. Pickleball is growing rapidly across North America and is extremely popular in Kingston. In June, the City hosted the National Pickleball Championships, attracting over 900 participants!
The Kingston Racquet Centre is the brain-child of Kody Kazda, a Ph.D student at Queen’s University. He was amazed that Kingston lacked an indoor club and went on a mission to make it happen. Kody’s quest led him to Tennis Clubs of Canada, an established leader in the creation and management of indoor facilities. The Kingston Racquet Centre will be the 8th club operating under the TCC banner. Working with City of Kingston, Kody and the team at TCC have made the vision a reality.
The Director of the KRC is Tony Roth, a Kingston native and graduate of Queen’s University. Tony is one of the most experienced coaches and tennis development leaders in Canada, and Founder of the Noble Tennis School.
The Centre will offer a complete range of Instruction and Play programs for juniors and adults, for both tennis and pickleball. The pickleball director is David Bussiere, one of the most active and experienced pickleball development leaders in Eastern Ontario. The Centre also features multi-sport partnerships, including the Seniors Association of Kingston, Kingston Sport and Social Club, and the Kingston Rock Volleyball Club. The Kingston Racquet Centre will be a hub of health, wellness and fun for the residents of Kingston, and beyond.
